Nach Glenn Freys Tod im Jahr 2016 legten die Eagles eine Pause ein, da Don Henley beschloss, dass die Band nicht mehr auftreten würde. Henley revidierte seine Entscheidung jedoch, und im März 2017 wurde bekannt gegeben, dass die Eagles auf zwei von ihrem Manager Irving Azoff organisierten Festivals mit Classic-Rock-Bands auftreten würden. Den Anfang machte das Classic West Festival im Dodger Stadium im Juli desselben Jahres. Henley holte Freys Sohn Deacon in die Band, nachdem er ihn bei Glenn Freys Trauerfeier dessen Lieder hatte singen sehen.
